Golf Outing Fundraiser
In June is the summer Golf Outing Fundraiser which for the past several years has been held at Stone Creek Golf Course in Urbana. Participation varies from year to year, but roughly 20 to 25 teams or 80 to 100 people attend. It is a 4-person best ball scramble event with some gambling on par 3 holes and prizes for things like longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt made.
The day starts out with a bucket of range balls for the golfers followed by lunch provided by Bunny's Tavern in Urbana. While checking in, the golfers can purchase 50/50 raffle tickets and mulligans for use on the holes. They can also choose to play a poker card game on each of the Par 3 holes.
At 1pm, the golfers are delivered to their beginning holes for the shotgun start. Some of the holes have special games hosted by some generous vendors. We also have an Amtryke on one of the holes so each players can get a close-up look at the kind of things their money buys.
The holes all have one or more sponsors and we post a sign advertising the vendor sponsors. The Champaign-Urbana community has been very generous with their support in the past and we encourage all of the players to support these businesses.
Each team has the option of a formal team picture and we provide printed, framed pictures of the team to each member. We have those ready to go when the players come off the course for dinner. Dinner has been catered by Hickory River in the past, and all players love the food.
We hope to continue this major fundraiser into the future.
